DAAD Helmut-Schmidt Scholarship Without IELTS: English Requirements by University

There is no single English-language rule for every Helmut-Schmidt course. Applicants must meet the language requirement of the specific participating university and programme.

Some courses may list IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent tests. Others may discuss alternative evidence under certain conditions.

Do not search only for DAAD Helmut-Schmidt without IELTS and stop there. The safer method is to open the exact course page and find the admission language section. The scholarship page tells you the programme exists; the university course page tells you what evidence that course accepts.

If the page lists IELTS and TOEFL but does not mention a medium-of-instruction letter, do not assume MOI is accepted. If it lists equivalent certificates, check whether your certificate is named or whether the office must approve it before submission.

Check whether an alternative certificate has conditions. A university may require a specific wording, a degree taught fully in English, a recent graduation date, an original letter from the registrar, or a separate approval step. If any condition is unclear, plan for an accepted test instead of assuming an exemption.

When applying to two courses, complete this check twice. An accepted alternative for one university may not be accepted by the second course, even within the same Helmut-Schmidt Programme cycle.
